With an area of 117 square miles, Trousdale County is the smallest county in Tennessee. It is one of only three metropolitan counties in the state and has a consolidated city-county government. An area rich in history, it is also a community that has had prosperous and thriving industries and small businesses. Today, the community continues to grow as new residents move in and new small businesses continue to be established.
The Chamber of Commerce is a non-governmental organization, comprised of business professionals, entrepreneurs and civic-minded individuals who collaborate to boost the economic and civic well-being of the community. The chamber supports local businesses and community through advocacy, networking, education, mentoring, community events and celebrations and more. Active Chambers of Commerce can contribute to a community鈥檚 recognition within the state and promote tourism to an area.
Members of the community met for the January Chamber meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Local civic and ministry leader Greg Clements shared about a couple of upcoming community events and invited those in attendance to the weekly Rotary Club meetings held on Thursdays at noon at Farmers Harvest, 226 Broadway.
Mayor Jack McCall announced that the Tennessee Department of Transportation has signed off a project to make the curbs in town more truck and trailer friendly. Work on the curbs should begin this spring of 2025.
Randall Blair and his son have opened a new business in Hartsville called Blair鈥檚 Paint and Body. More news about the new business will be forthcoming.
Hope Family Health will soon place vending style machines in the community to dispense Narcan kits and fentanyl test strips. The organization is seeking a public location with 24-hour access.
Many in attendance expressed appreciation to Bill Scruggs, Superintendent of Roads, and team for the great work they did in preparing roads for the major snow that was recently received. Scruggs reported the county dispersed 12,000 gallons of brine on Wednesday, Jan. 7 to prepare roads in the county for the snow.
Each meeting, the Chamber invites a guest speaker to address a variety of issues that affect the community. The guest speaker for January was Matt Batey, Trousdale County Emergency Management Agency Director. Batey discussed Trousdale County鈥檚 emergency preparedness plan and answered questions posed by guests with concerns on potential emergency situations and how they might impact Trousdale County. The Hartsville/Trousdale County Chamber of Commerce meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at noon in the Trousdale County Community Center, 301 E. Main St., Hartsville. Lunch is provided by local businesses for $10 a person. Board members for the local chamber include Jack McCall, Lonnie Taylor, Rachel Petty, Jenesia Ellis, Stephanie Dennis, Stanley Farley, Sabrina Storey, Shelby Perry and Jerry Richmond.
