Designed to help students develop character, social-emotional skills and academic abilities, the Character Counts program also creates positive school culture. Through this program, Trousdale County Elementary School students learn about the six pillars of character which include Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.
Students at the school are also encouraged to model the Yellow Jacket expectations of being Present, Punctual, Polite, Prepared and Productive. Students can be recognized for modeling expectations.
At the end of each semester, the Hartsville Tennessee Rotary Club awards a student at the school that has exemplified the Character Counts pillars and the Yellow Jacket expectations on a consistent basis.
TCES Principal Demetrice Badru addressed the student body on Thursday, Dec. 19 during a rally in the school gym.
鈥淚n our community, the Rotary Club is one of the organizations that assist people in our town and the students at our school,鈥 Badru said. 鈥淭his club does so much for our school, and we are grateful for them. The Rotary Club provided 3rd grade students with new dictionaries previously, some of you may receive gifts through the Christmas for Kids effort or you might receive today鈥檚 award for the Character Counts program.鈥
Zane Harper, a 2nd grade student, was selected for modeling the six pillars of the Character Counts program and the Yellow Jacket Expectations at the rally. Several Rotary Club members were present to present him with a new bike for his excellence at school. Harper鈥檚 parents were also there as he was presented with the bike.
