The staff at Trousdale Senior Living Center know a thing or two about entertaining their residents regularly but they really turn it up during the holiday season.
鈥淲e have a calendar of events for our residents each month,鈥 said Brooke Gross, an LPN at the center. 鈥淔rom peanut auctions to live music, therapy dogs, cake walks, mobile petting zoos, summer parties, spa days, ice cream socials and holiday events, we schedule and plan events for residents but also include their family and friends.鈥
Gross has been with the center for four years. She received her CNA certification while attending Trousdale County High School and graduated from TCAT in Hartsville as an LPN.
鈥淚 work closely with our Activity Director, Sherri Morgan,鈥 said Gross. 鈥淭hese activities are important to our residents. It gives them a reason to come out of their rooms to socialize and have fun. I started working here while I was in high school. I love the residents here. My great-grandma resided here as well, so it鈥檚 personal for me. I love to see the folks here smile.鈥
Staff advertised on the center鈥檚 Facebook page in November that 25 seniors needed to be adopted for the Christmas season. The community response was overwhelmingly successful with most residents being adopted twice.
鈥淚ndividuals, churches and even businesses donated items for the residents to have Christmas gifts to open at their Dec. 22 Christmas breakfast,鈥 said Gross. 鈥淭he Philippi Church of Christ donated fruit baskets to all the residents. Turner Trousdale Correctional Center donated puzzles, toiletries, and blankets and the Christmas Eve meal for residents. One of the resident鈥檚 family members churches donated a gift for each person,鈥 shared Gross. 鈥淭he residents were very blessed.鈥
Holiday activities for the seniors included a gingerbread house decorating contest, participating in the 2024 Christmas parade, a Christmas spirit week of daily activities and an Ugly Christmas Sweater Day with a visit from Santa.
鈥淎 few of the residents shed a few tears and told Santa he made their day,鈥 said Gross. 鈥淚t was very heartwarming!鈥
The holiday celebrations concluded Tuesday, Dec. 31 with a New Year鈥檚 Eve dinner celebration. Residents enjoyed finger foods and desserts and sparkling grape juice to toast to the new year.
Don鈥檛 worry about the residents getting bored after the holidays, though. The January 2025 calendar of activities came out and it is jam packed with opportunities.
The facility currently has open apartments for those needing assisted living arrangements available. Call 615-374-9771 for more information.
