Prioritize the safety of astronauts Wilmore and Williams
Editor鈥檚 Note: This letter was submitted this week by U.S. Rep. John Rose to the administrator of NASA.
I am writing to express my full support for the decision to prioritize the safety and well-being of Astronauts Barry 鈥淏utch鈥 E. Wilmore and Sunita (Suni) L. Williams by returning them to Earth aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule. I am deeply concerned about their safety and commend NASA for taking decisive action.
Both Astronauts Wilmore and Williams have made significant contributions to NASA鈥檚 missions and have served as inspiring role models for countless individuals. Their dedication and expertise are invaluable assets to our nation鈥檚 space program. By choosing to err on the side of caution and prioritize their safety, NASA is demonstrating its commitment to the well-being of its astronauts and to the highest standards of mission success.
As a fellow Tennessee Technological University graduate and a representative of the community in which Astronaut Wilmore was raised, I would greatly appreciate the chance to directly express my gratitude to Astronaut Wilmore for his service and to wish him well on the remainder of his mission with a call or other method of verbal communication. Given the unique circumstances of this situation, I believe such a communication with him would be particularly meaningful and would allow me to highlight the importance of NASA鈥檚 work to my constituents.
While I understand that astronauts鈥 time in space is a precious resource, I believe that this opportunity to connect with Astronaut Wilmore would be a valuable experience for both me and the community I represent.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
U.S. Rep. John Rose
