WATERTOWN — Facing DeKalb County’s zone defense and deliberate pace, Watertown’s offense never got started Tuesday night in a 49-20 loss.
DeKalb County scored the first seven points and led 11-2 at the first-quarter break, 19-9 at halftime and 30-13 going into the fourth as the visitors returned to Smithville 3-7 while the Purple Tigers fell to 5-3.
Dallas Kirby was consistent for DeKalb County with 17 points while Jordan Parker put in 10.
Devon Brown bagged a pair of 3-pointers and paced the Purple Tigers with six points.
Carlos Shannon finished with five points, Logan Hackett and Jack Beasley three each, Garrett Seaborn two and Cooper White a free throw.
The Purple Tigers are in Gatlinburg today to finish the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic at Rocky Top Sports World.
Today’s championship game will be held at Gatlinburg-Pittman Junior High.
They will play for first, third, fifth or seventh place against Loretto, Corbin (Ky.), Hamilton (Ala.) or Mount Paran Christian (Ga.). They opened the tournament Thursday against Falkner (Miss.) and faced University School of Nashville or Perry County (Ky.) yesterday.
Rockvale scores late to edge Green Hill 54-53MT. JULIET — Rockvale scored the go-ahead basket with four seconds to play Tuesday and host Green Hill missed an open 3-pointer at the buzzer to fall 54-53.
Green Hill led 16-11 at the first-quarter break before Rockvale rallied to a 27-27 tie at halftime. The Hawks held a 40-38 edge going into the fourth.
Alijah France finished with 15 points, Malachi Long 14 and Kaleb Lewis 10 for Rockvale.
Antjuan Welch sank 6 of 8 free throws as he and Jalen Searcy scored 15 points apiece for Green Hill while Aaron Mattingly threw in 13.
Tanner Bolton finished with four points and Nick Ware, Jalen Mitchell and Collin Dirl two each.
Green Hill hosted Wilson Central last night and will play in the Father Ryan Christmas Tournament next week.
