WATERTOWN — Watertown’s girls advanced to the finals of the THW Christmas Tournament with a 48-37 win over Huntland last Saturday.
The Lady Purple Tigers led 15-10 at the first-quarter break, 21-16 at halftime and 38-24 through three as they advanced to Monday’s final against 4A power Cookeville with a 12-1 record.
Macie Brelje led the Lady Tigers with 19 points while Dailey Hight hit three 3-pointers for her nine. Izzie Burns and Molly Followill each scored six points, Maggie Pearson four, Julianna Pruitt a 3 and Larkin Cherry a free throw.
Stratton Davis led the Lady Hornets with 14 points.
Watertown advanced to the semifinals via a start-to-finish 63-52 win over Battle Ground Academy last Friday.
The Lady Purple Tigers never trailed in leading 15-7 at the first-quarter break, 31-18 at halftime and 47-29 through three as they moved to 11-1.
Macie Brelje led the Lady Tigers with 18 points while Dailey Hight hit three 3-pointers on her way to 13 and Izzie Burns and Molly Followill 11 each. Julianna Pruitt pitced in seven points and Maggie Pearson three.
D.J. Haws led the Lady Wildcats with 15 points while Tayla Stovall scored 12 and K.B. Burton 10.
Watertown will return to regular action at 6 p.m. Friday at Trousdale County.
Devilettes roll to two easy wins in FloridaPENSACOLA, Fla. — Lebanon opened its stay in the Innisfree Hotel Christmas Tournament with a 66-22 trouncing of River Ridge (Fla.) last Friday.
The Devilettes led 24-6 at the first-quarter break and never looked back.
Ellie Beth McDonald drained four 3-pointers to lead Lebanon with 20 points while Samia Payne put in a pair of 3s for half of her 12. Tiara Spencer and Tramaria Neal each added eight points; Naleiya Withrow-Walker, Keeli Davis, Ashaunna Rowe and Maggie Kelley four each; Freedom Pfeil and Kiah Seay three apiece and K’Naya Williams two.
Withrow-Walker had five assists while Spencer finished with four steals.
The Devilettes followed with another rout on Saturday 66-22 over Forsyth (Ga.) Central.
Lebanon led 23-3 at the first-quarter break and 40-6 at halftime as the Devilettes won for the eighth time in nine games, improving to 8-4 for the season going into their Florida finale Monday against Rickards (Fla.).
McDonald had seven rebounds and five steals while Spencer finished with five deflections as both hit a pair of treys as part of their 16 points apiece. Payne poured in three triples for her nine points while Rowe added eight, including two treys. Davis scored seven, Ro Dowell four and Withrow-Walker, Neal and Seay two each. Withrow-Walker also had four steals.
After returning home, Lebanon will host Mt. Juliet at 6 p.m. next Tuesday at Campbell Brandon Gym/Hester Gibbs Court.
Late shot sends Green Hill to Liberty Creek third-place gameGALLATIN — Jane Ellis hit a running bank shot with five seconds to play Saturday to lift Christ Presbyterian to a 41-40 semifinal win over Green Hill in the Liberty Creek Christmas Tournament.
Kataira Tolbert’s putback put Green Hill ahead 40-39 with 13 seconds left. The Lady Hawks missed a desperation shot as time expired, sending them to Monday’s third-place game against Station Camp.
The Lady Lions led 8-4 at the first-quarter break, 20-16 at halftime and 30-29 through three of the tight game.
Lily Morrow led the Lady Lions with 19 points while Julia Speedy threw in 13 as each hit three 3-pointers.
Alyssa Potier put in three triples in leading the Lady Hawks with 3 points while Tolbert tossed in 10 of her 12 in the second half. Julia Varpness scored seven points, McKenna Solomon and Willa Heilman a 3 apiece and Emma Savage two.
Green Hill opened the tournament Friday with a 41-34 win over Macon County.
The Lady Hawks snapped a 7-7 tie with an 8-0 run and pulled further away with a 10-2 spurt.
Alyssa Potier poured in three 3-pointers to lead the Lady Hawks with 16 points. Kataira Tolbert added eight points, McKenna Solomon and Julia Varpness five each, Willa Heilman three and Sullie Gerik and Mary Stone two apiece.
Green Hill will return to regular-season action next Tuesday at home against Stewarts Creek.
