When it comes to unique and creative places to shop, Macon County has a diverse collection of businesses to patronize. Perhaps one of the more unique shops is The Rabbit Hole: Metaphysical & Gifts at 522 Lafayette Road in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. Shop owner, Brooke Mann, took time to share the origins and the vision she has for her shop.
鈥淛eff Poppen (The Barefoot Farmer) was great in helping us with getting this building,鈥 said Mann. 鈥淗e owns it and wasn鈥檛 using it much so when we approached him about renting it for our shop, he was all for it. We were previously in Lafayette but needed more room, and this building really fit what we were looking for. Jeff had it looking great, and the only change we made was paint the walls green. The walls were blue, and Jeff said why don鈥檛 you just paint some clouds on the walls, and I wasn鈥檛 really wanting to do that. He happened to be wearing a shirt the day we signed the lease that was green, and he said he didn鈥檛 like the color, but I did so we painted the walls the color of his shirt.鈥
There is a stove and other useful items in the store that will help Mann further the services she will be able to offer customers.
鈥淲e want to offer cookies, and hot chocolate, coffee and things like that,鈥 said Mann. 鈥淭he traffic into the shop has changed somewhat with the economy and the political atmosphere. We have solar panels that Jeff installed so that provides our electricity which is great. I鈥檓 excited to have more space and ideas I can come up with for using it. We would like to have live music as well as the other things we do here. I would love to do a locals writers eventually.鈥
Mann says that in this world of often dark times, she wants her shop to be a place people want to visit.
鈥淚 just want to be a friend to everyone,鈥 said Mann. 鈥淚 want to connect and create. It is my dream to bring people together to establish a network of real friends and family. In doing that we can open the best in others and bring thoughts and imaginations to life.鈥
As for the origin of the shop, Mann explained, 鈥淛osh (Mann鈥檚 husband) came up with the name. We call our farm Wonderland, and we鈥檝e planted a bunch of Christmas trees that will mature in a few years. Because our farm is called Wonderland, this made sense as a spinoff and keeping with the theme. He said you know, the Metaphysical world is kind of like going down the rabbit hole, so why not call it the rabbit hole. I thought it was perfect. We have kind of adopted the theme, and we have bunnies everywhere. It fits our personalities and our vision for what we鈥檇 like to offer the community.鈥
