LEBANON — Macon County’s junior high girls held off a challenge from host Friendship Christian to prevail 33-29 Thursday afternoon.
The Tigerettes led 15-8 at the first-quarter break, 24-18 at halftime and 28-25 going into the fourth. The Lady Commanders took a brief lead in the fourth quarter before Macon County came out with a 7-5 record.
Grace Sircy scored 12 points to lead the Tigerettes while Abbie Carter collected seven points, Zana Flowers six and Leelyn Gregory and Savannah Keene four each.
Ella Bryson led the Lady Commanders with 14 points, half of which came in the second quarter and all but two in the first half.
Afterward, Macon County’s boys fell way behind in the latter portion of the first quarter as the Tigers lost 48-23.
The Commanders climbed to a 16-7 first-quarter lead and were up 24-13 at halftime and 44-17 going into the fourth.
Brock Winfree scored 16 points from inside and Jackson Haynes hit five 3-pointers for his 15 for Friendship.
Ace Meador and Kaedon Greer each finished with four points for Macon County while Carter Haehl, Camden Haehl and Thomas Trentt each tossed in three and Deacon Green, Oliver Houston and John-Luke Borders two apiece.
