Mrs. Dene Massey Owens, 90, of the Rome community in Smith County, Tennessee, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
She was born in Smith County July 1, 1934, daughter of the late George Lillard Massey Sr. and Myra Cutrell Massey.
She was a 1953 graduate of Smith County High School. She worked at Robertshaw in Lebanon for a time and was a homemaker. She was a faithful member of the Rome Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Ray Owens; great-grandson, Noah Gabriel Owens; two sisters, Edna Earl Hesson and Katherine Woodard; three brothers, Kenneth, James and George Lillard Massey Jr.; stepmother, Bertha Massey; and half-sister, Rose Marie Taylor.
Survivors include her two sons, Dale (Marty) Owens and James T. (Brenda) Owens; four grandchildren, Sean (Anita) Owens, J.B. (Bethany) Owens, Scot (Skylyn) Owens and Jill (Chris) Fariss; six great-grandchildren, Anna, Audrey, Alex and Camille Owens and Kenidy and Emery Fariss; twin brother, Gene Massey; and half-sister, Betty (Joe) Estes.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, at 1 p.m. from the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with longtime minister and friend, Stan Stevenson officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of services.聽 Interment will follow in the Smith County Memorial Gardens of Carthage, Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Sean, Scot, J.B., Alex and Danny Wayne Owens, Chris Fariss, Benny Woodard and Scott Massey.聽
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Church of Christ or the charity of your choice.
