Have you ever heard someone say, 鈥淐ontact the FCS Agent at the Extension Office, they can help you?鈥 Wondered what does FCS even mean? FCS stands for Family and Consumer Sciences.
Trousdale County Extension office offers Family and Consumer Science that addresses a variety of interests for residents within the community. Those topics range from information about family relationships and dynamics, nutrition information, health related topics, and financial literacy.
In Trousdale County Extension, the FCS Agent is Christen Newby-Hood. She has been in her role for almost a year and a half. Before becoming the FCS Agent, she spent 25 years teaching and working in leadership in the Early Childhood Education field. In the past, FCS Agents have had the following titles: Home Agent, Home Economists Agent, Home Demonstration Agent, etc. We have a rich history that has been around to support families for generations. A few of the past FCS Agents in Trousdale County include Mrs. Linda Harris-Taylor, Mrs. Betty Brown, Mrs. Jane Hundley, Mrs. Dorinda Gaw, Ms. Kathy Atwood, and Mrs. Theresa Allan. They have all paved the way for the future of FCS in Trousdale County.
Through the generations, we have helped gentlemen learn to cook after losing their spouse, helped parents co-parent to have an effective relationship with their child, taught food safety through food preservation, helped individuals with diabetes learn how to manage their chronic conditions, etc. There are stories throughout the county on how the FCS Agents and their programs have helped countless residents and their families. You can be part of the FCS legacy by participating in one of our upcoming programs. Contact the Trousdale County Extension Office for more details on FCS programming such as the State Wide Food Drive and Walk Across Tennessee. Both programs will be starting in April.
Trousdale County has three Family and Community Education Clubs or FCE Clubs. These clubs were formally known as Home Demonstration Clubs. Club members have a common purpose: to learn through shared experiences, strengthen adult education, promote projects which enhance family and community well-being, and improve home and community life. The FCS Agent works alongside these FCE Club members to ensure they are serving the community, learning through leadership opportunities, and having fun while in the process. Anyone in the community is welcome to attend a FCE club and club meeting. Yearly membership is $10 and can be paid various ways.
