Throughout the annals of history there have been iconic individuals who have inspired others to accomplish their impossible dreams.
Their indomitable spirit, passion, energy, and fearless acts stirred the spirits of people paralyzed by doubt and inaction. Their ability to awaken sleeping giants distinguished them; they were head and shoulders above their peers. Everything rises and falls on visionary leadership. We glean key life impacting lessons from these mighty heroes who inspire us to accomplish our impossible dreams.
Tremendous examples of visionary leadership are shared throughout Holy Scripture.
In God鈥檚 鈥淗all of Faith,鈥 the bold, proactive decision of Moses to leave the household of the Pharaoh of Egypt is delineated.
Hebrews 11:27 points out: 鈥淏y faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.鈥
Prior to Moses being chosen to lead the nation of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt, his faith was being forged in the crucible of trials and tribulation. Having been providentially protected from death as a baby, Moses was brought up in the luxury and privilege of the Pharoah鈥檚 palace. However, his spirit was aflame for the deliverance of his people as he heard their cries to God and witnessed their oppression.
Moses fearlessly took a bold step of faith, and he never looked back. Through his eye of faith, he envisioned the invisible God of Israel and was obsessed to persevere. Moses had an indomitable spirit that would not be quenched by threats in his circumstances. The indelible mark of faith in God was branded into every fiber of his being.
The multitudes of enslaved men, women and children followed Moses out of bondage to a land they had never seen. They trusted this chosen servant leader of God and were impelled to follow him. Clearly, circumstances do not make a leader, they reveal those innate qualities already possessed by the individual. By daily demonstrations of wisdom and meekness, Moses led his people by example.
Indeed, there are lessons to learn from this iconic figure.
Before he took the helm of leadership, Moses passed the moral and spiritual tests God had put him through. Clearly, the greatest crisis in our world is leadership, and the greatest crisis in leadership is character. Moses was a man of exemplary character, and thus, fit for leadership.
Moses also had a keen sense of self-awareness. He knew he had difficulty speaking and that he would be challenged when communicating with the new Pharoah of Egypt. Furthermore, he knew the depth of his commitment. He was unwavering in his zeal for victory in the acquisition of the land promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
When the children of Israel spoke out about giants living in the Promised Land, Moses pleaded with God to spare their lives from His judgment while offering his own life. This selfless, vicarious offer testified of his vision to fulfill God鈥檚 promise to the patriarchs.
As a result, he was committed to sacrifice whatever was necessary to accomplish God鈥檚 ordained purpose even if it meant his own life. This was another test of character successfully passed. Moses was a man of spiritual conviction and a genuine servant of Almighty God.
In our world today we are searching for genuine visionaries. Those selfless individuals who possess impeccable character and inner fortitude that inspire people to follow their lead and accomplish incredible feats. Visionary leadership is not a title nor is it a position. It is moral authority that sets an example and shows the way to success amidst overwhelming difficulty.
Let us determine to be a choice vessel of God, tempered in the fiery crucible, and prepared for His service. Our world needs visionary leaders equipped with moral authority for such a time as this. Through their leadership impact we may accomplish our impossible dreams.
