MURFREESBORO — Mt. Juliet had a busy weekend with two games Saturday and two more Sunday in the Warrior Classic at Barfield Park.
The Lady Bears began with a 14-6 win over Graves County (Ky.) behind three homers and five RBIs by Chloe Younggren.
Graves County took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Mt. Juliet jumped in front 3-2 in the second on home runs by Younggren and Annabella Brewer.
An error helped Graves County pull even at 3-3 in the third before Mt. Juliet seized control in the fourth with five runs on eight hits. Younggren’s two-run bomb to center field was the big blow.
The Lady Bears added six more in the fifth on Kendall Bucher’s RBI triple, Younggren’s two-run shot to left and Ashlyn Elliott’s three-run blast to right.
Jewell Hale was the winning pitcher as she allowed six runs (four earned) on 10 hits in five innings.
Mt. Juliet notched 19 hits, including three each by Younggren, Bucher and Annalise Mecklenburg and two apiece by Hale, Elliott, Brewer and Avery Haymans.
The Lady Bears followed with a 3-2 win over Lincoln County later in the day Saturday.
Younggren singled in the first inning, doubled in the third and homered to left with the bases empty in the fifth.
Bucher’s RBI single pulled Mt. Juliet into a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the third inning. Elliott’s home run to left put the Lady Bears ahead 2-1 in the fourth. After Lincoln County tied the score in the top of the fifth, Younggren untied it in the home half.
Elliott earned the win by allowing three hits while striking out 16 in seven innings.
On Sunday, Hale set the tone for a 14-1 win over Benet Academy (Ill.) with a first-inning grand slam to center field.
Mt. Juliet put up a five-spot in the second inning on five hits. Kara Hughes hit an RBI single and Bucher a two-run triple. Elliott’s groundout produced another score.
Hale gave up a run on five hits in three innings.
Hughes had three of Mt. Juliet’s 11 hits. Hughes, Haymans and Brewer each had two hits.
Mt. Juliet wrapped up the tournament with a 7-3 win over Central Hardin (Ky.) behind Elliott’s 10-strikeout performance in the circle.
Younggren’s hot weekend continued with a second-inning two-run homer to left sandwiched between two singles.
Aynslee Bright was hit by a pitch and Zoie Butler walked, both with the bases loaded, in the top of the first to put the Lady Bears on the board.
Younggren and Bucher accounted for half of Mt. Juliet’s 12 hits with three each. Elliott and Layla Patrick each produced two hits.
Lady Devils outscored 17-14 by Beech
Beech outscored host Lebanon 17-14 last Friday.
Keeli Davis had three of Lebanon’s 17 hits, including a fifth-inning double. Her second-inning single lifted the Lady Devils into a 5-5 tie.
Beech seized control with seven scores in the top of the third to chase starter Amiyah Hodge. Reliever Kenzie Jordan surrendered two runs (none earned) on five hits in three innings as Lebanon pitching surrendered 18 hits.
Shaylee Essary led Lebanon with four hits. Caitlin Greer drove in three runs as she, Reagan Schmitz and Teagan Fetcho also enjoyed multiple-hit games.
