GLADEVILLE — Wilson Central won both of their Warrior Classic contests last Friday against out-of-state teams.
The Wildcats beat Bloomington (Ill.) Central Catholic 7-3 and Bellbrook (Ohio) 15-1 last Friday before falling to east Tennessee’s Science Hill 8-5 Saturday.
Nicholas Ferrara held Bloomington to two hits and a walk in five innings while striking out five.
Central built a 6-0 lead through four innings before the Saints scored all their runs in the top of the sixth against Jake Smith. Brady Schafer struck out two in a scoreless seventh.
The Wildcats cracked six hits, including a two-run single by Dylan Acevedo in the first inning. Cohen Crocker doubled and singled.
Central spotted Bellbrook a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Wildcats scored 15 over the first three frames of the five-inning contest, finishing with 14 hits.
Caden Webber drove in five runs on a double and two singles. Colton Vivrette had four RBIs on a double and single while Crocker knocked in two runs. Luke Shaughnessy tripled as he, Acevedo and Mason Tinnell had two hits each while Brysen Gibbs doubled.
Schafer pitched a five-inning complete game with four hits and a walk allowed with 11 strikeouts.
Science Hill took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and expanded it to 8-2 midway through the fourth before the Wildcats came back with three in the bottom of the fourth.
The Toppers outhit Central 11-10.
Landen Ivy, the first of three Central pitchers, worked two innings and took the loss.
All of Central’s hits were singles, including two each by Shaughnessy, Acevedo and Reid Spencer.
Commanders claim district doubleheader from Ezell-Harding
Playing a District 4-IIA doubleheader at John McNeal Stadium on Monday instead of a home-and-home series, Friendship Christian swept Ezell-Harding 8-2 and 15-0.
Brayden Stringer pitched four innings and Caleb Kring one of a five-inning no-hitter in the nightcap helped the Commanders climb to 7-6 for the season and 4-0 in the district. Each pitcher walked a batter and combined to strike out three.
Friendship, serving as the visiting team, finished with 14 hits. Mason Hallum had three of the hits, including a double. Kring doubled twice and Perez Parker had two singles as they and Cayden Law drove in three runs apiece. Hayden Holleman also had a pair of singles.
The Commanders scored in all five of their at-bats, highlighted by seven scores in the fourth.
Sam Duckwiler scattered eight hits in the first game but was scathed for just two runs in the top of the third inning when Ezell, the visiting team, took a 2-0 lead. The senior walked one, hit one and fanned four.
Friendship tied the score in the bottom of the third, broke it with two in the fifth and seized control with four in the sixth, finishing with nine hits.
Law doubled as he and Miles Fitzpatrick each finished with two hits for Friendship.
The Commanders are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Knoxville Webb on Saturday.
Lebanon falls to Liberty Creek
Lebanon dropped a 10-1 decision to visiting Liberty Creek last Friday at Brent Foster Field.
The Wolves took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Lebanon pulled even in the third on Jordan Jewell’s double to center field.
Liberty Creek dominated from then on as Cade Thorne took the loss. Thorne allowed four runs (three earned on five hits and a walk while striking out six in five innings.
Greenstreet HBP drives in walk-off in eighth for Green Hill
MT. JULIET — Joey Greenstreet was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning last Friday to lift host Green Hill past Page 6-5 on the Hill.
In addition to the walk-off RBI, Greenstreet also earned the win on the mound with 12/3 innings of work. He was charged with the tying run on a homer in the top of Page’s three-run seventh but struck out five Patriots. Prior to the homer, Page scored twice off of Logan Barney in the seventh.
Page took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning off starter Jackson Hines.
Green Hill cut the margin in half in the bottom of the inning and took a 5-1 lead with four in the fifth.
The Hawks had seven hits to Page’s six, which came off four GH pitchers. Gabe Gray singled twice while Grant Kruger doubled for Green Hill.
