John Rose

U.S. Rep. John Rose announced last month he would be running for governor of Tennessee in 2026.

Rose made the announcement at the Williamson County Republican Women鈥檚 monthly business meeting, which he attended with his wife, Chelsea, and youngest son, Sam, as reported in the Williamson Herald newspaper.

Last April when asked at the Cumberland County Republican Women鈥檚 meeting by the Crossville Chronicle if he had interest in running for governor, Rose said he was considering it but wanted to focus on the 鈥渢ask at hand,鈥 and that task was the 6th District congress election of 2024.

Rose, a Republican who resides in Cookeville, is in his fourth term representing the 6th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Williamson Herald reported 鈥淭his is a critical and historic time in our state,鈥 Rose said. 鈥淲e are at risk of losing what essentially makes Tennessee special. We鈥檝e got to be more selective about the businesses we invite here. We want business that will keep Tennessee unique.

鈥淲hile we recruit business, we should ensure they will assimilate and embrace our values and they鈥檙e not coming here to change,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e like what we have here.鈥

Rose listed five major issues he plans to highlight during the campaign: education, transportation and infrastructure, access to health care, energy and economic development.

Rose, a Cookeville businessman and farmer, was first elected in November 2018 to represent Tennessee鈥檚 6th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. That district includes Cannon, Clay, Cumberland, Davidson, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Scott, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Van Buren, Warren, White and Wilson counties.
