On Feb. 20, 2008, The Roark family were forced to sell most of their 200 cattle. The farm had been in the family since the 1860s. The reason for selling was due to the extensive damage done by the tornado that ripped through Macon County on Feb. 5, 2008. The tornado destroyed 10 barns, a silo, a garage and some cattle.

鈥淭he cows were ready to start calving next month,鈥 said Thomas Roark. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a sad day when everything you have but maybe 20 or 30 young cows have to be sold,鈥 said Ken Roark, nephew of Thomas Roark.
