Mrs. Shelby Gregory, 86, a homemaker of the Young Branch community in Wilson County, Tennessee, was called home to be with her Lord at 3:18 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, with her family at her bedside at the Knollwood Manor Health Care in Lafayette, Tennessee, where she was admitted Tuesday, Feb. 18. She was pronounced deceased at 5:32 a.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Lebanon, Tennessee.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, with Eld. Shawn Shepherd and Eld. Kevin Graham officiating. Burial followed beside her husband Glenn in the Dias section at the Dixon Springs Cemetery where her brother-in-law, Eld. Larry Gregory officiated.
She was born Shelby Jean Moss in the Cato community of Trousdale County, Tennessee, Sept. 5, 1938, and was one of three daughters of the late Sam Clyde 鈥淏uster鈥 Moss who passed away Dec. 13, 1981, at the age of 73 and Gracie E. Gregory Moss who passed away Sept. 24, 1990, at the age of 77.
In Rossville, Georgia, Dec. 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Shoulders Hollow native, Glenn Edison Gregory who preceded her in death at the age of 87, Jan. 5, 2023, following just over 68 years of marriage. The wedding vows were solemnized by Justice of the Peace, Herman Bowman.
A daughter, Glenda Jean Gregory Brashier, passed away at the age of 65, Jan. 14, 2022, and a sister-in-law, Laura Nell Gregory Reasonover, preceded her in death April 29, 2023, at the age of 72.
Mrs. Gregory was saved at the age of 13 under the pastorate of the late Eld. Calvin Gregory and was baptized the next day into the full fellowship of the Maces Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member.
She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed working in her flower gardens and was the kind of cook that everyone enjoyed sitting at her table for delicious meals.
Before her retirement in 1988 to take care of her grandchildren, she was a cook at the former Cox-Davis Elementary School in the Riddleton community and concluded her employment at the Carthage Elementary School with total service of 17 years.
Surviving are her five children, two daughters, Kathy Gregory Webb and husband, David, of
the Young Branch community, and Debbie Gregory Cassity and husband, David, of the Defeated Creek community; three sons, Sam Gregory and wife, Tammy, of Hartsville, Tennessee, Dan Gregory and companion, Kim Coggins, of Lafayette, and David Gregory and wife, Frankie, also of Hartsville; two sisters, Betty Moss Gregory and husband, Eldon, of the Young Branch community, Linda Moss White and husband, Charlie, of Hartsville; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Joseph Brashier, of South Bend, Indiana.
The Gregory family has requested memorials be made to the Maces Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
