With a calendar full of events each month, the Trousdale County Senior Center lives up to its mission statement of providing services and activities that enhance the physical, social and wellbeing of the senior population in Trousdale County. The center is also committed to raising awareness that the senior population is vital, active and contributing to the betterment of the community.
Anyone walking into the Holiday Food Hop held on Thursday, Dec. 12 would have to agree with the statement on the senior center brochure, 鈥榖eyond aging, there鈥檚 living and that鈥檚 what we do at the Trousdale County Senior Center.鈥 The center was filled with folks talking, laughing and anticipating all the tasty morsels offered at this year鈥檚 food hop.
鈥淭his is the 2nd year for the Holiday Food Hop,鈥 said Ruby Pitre, the activities coordinator. 鈥淟ast year we sold 30 tickets, and everyone loved the event so much, we upped it to 50 tickets for this year鈥檚 event. We sold out almost immediately! I鈥檇 say this year鈥檚 event is a success.鈥
Local businesses, organizations and individuals volunteered to provide the center with goodies and food for the senior participants. Following a path of arrows, seniors filled their trays with a variety of foods and gathered in lovely, decorated rooms to dine and visit. One senior was overheard to mention a great thing about the event was no hopping was required to participate.
鈥淭his event is a wonderful treat for the seniors,鈥 said Pitre. 鈥淚t also helps new businesses get the word about what they serve or do. We are grateful for all that sponsored the event. We also appreciate our volunteers that assisted as well.鈥
Sponsors for this year鈥檚 event include T&T Lawncare and Pressure Washing, Farmer鈥檚 Harvest, Highpoint Health Trousdale with Ascension Saint Thomas , Mudlark Caf茅-Coffee House, Hartsville First United Methodist Church, Tomo鈥檚 Bakery, Early Bird Caf茅, Plain Jane鈥檚 Italian Cuisine, La Quesadilla Mexican Restaurant, Hartsville Foodland, Mayor Jack McCall, Lainey Lou鈥檚 Kitchen, McDonald鈥檚, Cake & Company, Reese鈥檚 Piggly Wiggly, Fruit Tea Chicks and Minit Mart.
