MCMINNVILLE — Green Hill extended its school record for best start to seven as the undefeated Hawks soared past winless Warren County 38-0 last Friday night at Nunley Stadium.
Following a series of punts, Nick Owens Jr. broke the shutout with a 5-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter.
Zach Cartwright led Green Hill with 86 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He had a 1-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter and a 2-yarder early in the third. Nic Moore’s catch from Owens accounted for the two-point conversion following the first TD as the Hawks took a 15-0 lead into halftime.
The defense accounted for the final nine points of the third. First came a safety before linebacker Cameron Richardson had a pick-six as Green Hill took a 31-0 lead into the fourth.
Owens caught a 10-yard scoring pass from Kannon Burroughs in the fourth.
The defense may have been the star of the night. In addition to the scores, the unit held Warren County to minus-6 yards as the Hawks sacked Brady Swallows five times for minus-34 yards.
Green Hill will take the fall break open date this week before the Hawks, who pulled even with Mt. Juliet atop Region 4-6A at 4-0, 7-0 overall, will travel to LaVergne at 7 p.m. Oct.18 in their final non-region game of the regular season.
