Here we are already one month down in 2025. We take a last look at January happenings through the years.
In January of 2008 it was announced that beginning in February of 2008, courts would no longer be held at the Macon County Courthouse. General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge Ken Witcher held the last juvenile court in the upstairs courtroom on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008. Juvenile court proceedings would from then on be held at the justice center on Hwy. 52 Bypass East in Lafayette. The complex was only six years old at that time.
Indigo Blues (long since closed) was holding their winter clearance sale. An example of prices: men’s coats were on sale for $4.97.
In 1993 Johnathan Offutt was hired as Macon County High School Football head coach.
Local artist Jerry Morgan and his Jerry-O-Phonic homemade recording device, created from recycled cans, were featured in the Macon County Times.
An RH53d United States Naval helicopter threw a sizeable piece of its rotor blade and had to set down in Mark Jenkins’ field to make temporary repairs. The helicopter then flew to Lafayette airport where a new rotor was flown in the next day from Norfolk, Virginia, and repairs were made. The helicopter was on its way from Memphis to Norfolk.
U.S. Representative Albert Gore Jr. held a public meeting at the Red Boiling Springs City Hall. The meeting was intended to allow constituents to voice their opinions on the issues of the day.
