JOHNSON CITY — Former Friendship Christian standout lineman Luke Smith collected his third All-ÐÔÊÓ½çAPPn honor of the week last Friday as he landed a spot on the third team by Phil Steele.
The East Tennessee State grad student was named a second-team All-ÐÔÊÓ½çAPPn by both Stats Perform FCS and the Associated Press earlier in the week.
Smith, a staple of the Buccaneer offensive line the last two seasons, helped lead the Blue and Gold to a bounce-back season in 2024. With Smith at center for all 12 games, the Bucs ran for over 100 yards in 11 of those contests this fall, including a season-high 308 yards in the win at The Citadel in late September. ETSU also surpassed 200 yards five times and led the conference in both rushing yards (2,330) and rushing yards per game (194.2) at the end of the regular season.
Smith’s leadership on the Buccaneer front line also helped keep ETSU’s quarterbacks upright as the Bucs allowed a Southern Conference-low 17 sacks in 12 games in 2024. Following the regular season, Smith not only earned All-SoCon first team honors but also took home the Jacobs Blocking Award that goes to the league’s top offensive lineman.
