Cumberland University is proud to host Cliff Ellis, one of the most accomplished basketball coaches in NCAA history, for a special book signing event on Feb. 6. The event will take place in conjunction with the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball games held at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
Coach Ellis鈥 decorated collegiate coaching career began right here at Cumberland, where he quickly achieved remarkable success. In just three years, he posted a 78-12 record and led the team to two Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association championships. Ellis went on to accumulate 833 wins across four Division I programs: South Alabama, Clemson, Auburn and Coastal Carolina. His contributions earned him a well-deserved place in four Halls of Fame, including Cumberland鈥檚 Sports Hall of Fame.
In addition to his coaching career, Ellis is an accomplished author, with works that explore themes such as leadership, mentoring, work ethic and personal development. At this event, he will sign his latest book, 鈥淟ife鈥檚 a Dance.鈥 In 鈥淟ife鈥檚 a Dance,鈥 Ellis reflects on the challenges and triumphs of his career, sharing insights not only into what it takes to be a successful basketball team, but also valuable life lessons and truths.
The evening will begin with a meet and greet with the Cumberland Alumni Book Club, followed by a book signing at 5 p.m. Fans will have a second opportunity to meet Ellis and get their copy of 鈥淟ife鈥檚 a Dance鈥 at 6:30 p.m., during halftime of the women鈥檚 game. Both signings will take place in the gym lobby.
During halftime of the men鈥檚 game, President Paul Stumb and Board of Trust Chairman Sam Hatcher will introduce Coach Ellis, along with some of his former players, to the crowd.
Ellis鈥 journey is a testament to dedication, perseverance and excellence both on and off the court. His leadership and success continue to serve as a powerful example for coaches, athletes and individuals aspiring to make a lasting impact in their fields.
