The council also approved drafting letters to realtors and residents inside historic city limits regarding rules and regulations when making changes to properties in those historic limits.
Another issue discussed by the council was that Mike Martin has purchased the old Jernigan鈥檚 marketplace (across from The Palace nursing home).
鈥淗e鈥檚 going to have pizza, farmers market and may eventually have liquor by the drink and beer,鈥 Red Boiling Springs Mayor Kenneth Hollis said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 bought that and getting ready to start on that, so we will have a new restaurant soon. He has bars up north in Chicago as well. He鈥檒l make it nice. When the place was Jernigan鈥檚, they probably did a million dollars or more a year selling trees, shrubs, produce and things like that.鈥
The council also voted to release the moratorium on water meters.
Red Boiling Springs Councilman George McCrary gave a report about new lights for the park.
鈥淭ri-County engineers will be coming over on the 14{span style=鈥漟ont-size: 16.6667px;鈥潁th{/span} of this month to begin a preliminary plan of where we will be placing the new lights,鈥 said McCrary. 鈥淭hey will know the best locations for the lights and that will allow us a better understanding of where to go from there. We are trying to do it with the electricity locations that are already in place to avoid additional costs by making new ones. I think we will be able to do so. We will do a walk through the park then.鈥
At their first meeting in 2025, the Lafayette City Council approved the following:
鈥 First reading of Ordinance 861 to rezone the property of Dale Hix on Highway 52, parcel 020.01 map 059, from I-1 light industrial to C-2 general business.
鈥 Resolution 01-07-25 to increase the speed limit on Red Boiling Springs Road from 15 mph to 25 mph on the section from Medical Drive to Highway 52.
鈥 The petition for annexation to the planning committee for the property at 540 Brattontown Circle.
