The Lebanon Police Department said it has talked with Walmart representatives about concerns stemming from recent public safety incidents, particularly with the number of calls to the Lebanon Walmart in 2024.
Walmart and LPD said they will meet quarterly to monitor progress and proactively address concerns as they rise.
鈥淲almart was highly receptive to our concerns and shared thoughtful ideas and store goals with us,鈥 LPD stated in a release. 鈥淭hese ideas and goals align with a shared commitment to making shopping at the Lebanon Walmart as safe as possible for our citizens while simultaneously reducing the resources we must dedicate.鈥
Last month鈥檚 incident where a man fired a gun at another individual sparked debate among Lebanon residents on social media. Light fixtures in the parking lot not working was the primary complaint.
It was a complaint so common that the Lebanon City Council mentioned it in a recent meeting.
Walmart said repairs to the lighting fixtures were completed within days of the meeting with LPD.
In 2024, LPD responded to more than 1,100 calls to Walmart. Chief Mike Justice said with extra patrols sent out, the number increased to more than 1,800.
LPD said the department is encouraged by Walmart鈥檚 receptiveness and commitment to address concerns raised within the community.
