PULASKI — Giles County built a big lead last Friday as the Bobcats opened their Region 4-3 A schedule with a 42-21 triumph over Watertown at Sam Davis Park.
The Bobcats scored on runs of 7 and 2 yards in the first quarter and an 8-yarder in the second. After a Watertown drive stalled on the Giles County 3-yard line, the Bobcats went 97 yards in the other direction with the final 80 coming on a bomb for a 28-0 lead.
A final Watertown heave into the end zone missed as the first half ended.
Watertown quarterback Blake Waldorf scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. After a 3-yard Giles County scoring run, Waldorf found Garrett Davis up a seam for an 11-yard scoring pass as the Purple Tigers trailed 35-14 going into the fourth.
Waldorf hit Jesse Bratcher with a 20-yard fade into the right side of the end zone for Watertown’s final score.
Giles tacked on one final TD on a 3-yard run as the defending region champion Bobcats pulled even at 3-3 for the season.
The Purple Tigers were held to 12 rushing yards on nine carries. Waldorf completed 30 of 45 passes for 425 yards. Marcus Reynolds had 10 catches for 134 yards while Davis had 117 yards on seven receptions. Bratcher finished with 96 yards on eight grabs.
Watertown fell to 1-5, 0-2 region going into the Wilson County-wide fall break open date this week. The Purple Tigers will return to region action Oct. 18 against region rival Grundy County in Coalmont where the winner will likely lock up (or all but clinch) a playoff berth.
