The city of Lebanon is conducting a corridor study for State Route 26, which includes the 性视界APP 70 Bypass , Baddour Parkway, High Street and Sparta Pike.
鈥淭he study limits include the existing roadway from West Main Street (State Route 24) to the I-40 Interchange (Exit 239),鈥 capital projects director Kristen Rice said. 鈥淭he study will examine the relationship between the roadway and the adjacent land uses, mobility for non-motorized travel, traffic operations, and safety.鈥
The city seeks to find sustainable solutions to increase safety along the State Route 26 corridor, and to address the increased flow of traffic that the corridor is seeing.
As a part of the study, a public input meeting was held on Thursday evening that Lebanon Mayor Rick Bell said around 25 people showed up to.
鈥淢ostly, it was thoughts about creating more lanes, widening,鈥 Bell said. 鈥淭he bypass gets narrower in some spots and widens up in some other spots, so making it uniform all the way through with widening and turn lanes and just making traffic flow better.鈥
Rice said public input is an important part of the study, which is why the city invited the public to provide comment regarding the current and future use of the corridor.
鈥淭here will also be an online survey posted soon on the City website and social media for the public to provide feedback,鈥 Rice said.
Now that the city has gathered public input, it鈥檒l be reviewed by city engineers.
鈥淔or a long time, for decades, I鈥檝e heard people talk about how the bypass needs to be widened,鈥 Bell said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 something that鈥檚 been talked about for many years, but I don鈥檛 think it鈥檚 a good idea to go build something without studying it first. That鈥檚 really what this is about, to look and see what the proper thing to do is and look at the future.鈥
